La Miranda

The Secastilla valley, high in the foothills of the Pyrenees, is a hidden gem, with old Garnacha bush vines producing outstanding wines of exceptional intensity and character. Discovered by chance by our winemaker, the vineyard was tended for many years by an old man and his wife, Miranda. The breath-taking beauty of this stony, inhospitable vineyard surrounded by the snow-capped Pyrenees casts a magical spell over every visitor.

Tasting Notes

La Miranda de Secastilla Garnacha Blanca is pale in colour, with a greenish iridescence and very bright. It displays a range of
elegant, subtle and enticing aromas. Light on the palate at first, it reveals itself to be a full, smooth, rounded, long wine with a
pleasant aftertaste.

History
The relative altitude and particular orientation of these vineyards mean that the area receives a high number of hours of sunshine,
which helps the fruit ripen. The whole valley is dry farmed, whilst the soil is sandy loam and quite stony.
Regional Information
The Secastilla Valley vineyards lie in the far north-eastern part of Somontano, where they enjoy a special Mediterranean
microclimate. Vias del Vero has 48 hectares of vineyard there, primarily growing Garnacha, along with Parraleta and Syrah.

Vinification Details
The Syrah grapes were harvested during the third week of September, whereas the Garnacha were picked a month later. After being chilled down to 8C, the
grapes macerated for a further two days prior to alcoholic fermentation. After racking, the wines spontaneously began malolactic fermentation. The wines were decanted naturally and transferred to French oak barrels for 8 months. Lastly, the wine was filtered and bottled.
